Who is Jesus Christ?

The Holy Scriptures reveal Jesus Christ to be God in the flesh (John 1:1,14Colossians 2:9), physically risen from the dead (John 2:19-21), Lord (Luke 24:34), and Savior (Acts 5:30-32).  He came to die for sinners (Romans 5:8) and to deliver people from the righteous wrath (i.e. judgment) of God upon us.  He is the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:1-2, 14).

Why does God send people to hell?

God doesn’t send anyone to hell. It was never His design to send people to hell. It breaks the heart of God to see humanity, made in His image, make the deliberate choice to go to hell. Hell was not made for people; it was made for the angelic being that rebelled against God, Satan. In Matthew 25:41, Jesus says the everlasting fire was prepared for the devil and his angels. Scripture also teaches, “[God] is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). That is why God sent Jesus to die on the cross in our place–to bridge the gap between sinful man and a Holy God. God wants you to go to heaven and not hell.

Is the Bible trustworthy?

The Bible was written by those who were inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16), so it is accurate and true, and represents historical occurrences.  The Bible reveals the very essence of God (John 1:1). When we look at the New Testament we realize that it was written by those who either knew Jesus personally as eyewitnesses or were under the direction of those who did.  They wrote what they saw.  It comes down to whether or not you believe what it says about Jesus Christ.  Do you?

How can a good God allow evil?

This is a flawed premise since it implies that we are in a position to say what is good and what is not good about God. We ourselves do not know what good is naturally, for we are not basically good. How then can we judge God?

Still, the question of evil persists, and we often hear the question “why?” in the aftermath of some tragedy. Remember, when God created the world, He created it perfect. That includes His creation of humans. Yet, this “perfect” man and woman were also given an ability to choose between good and evil. When Adam and Even chose to disobey God, sin, death and suffering became an inevitable part of life. Romans 5:12 states, “When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned”. The evil in this world is a result of that original sin.

How can Christians claim Jesus is the only way to heaven?

Are you saying that if a person does not believe in Jesus Christ, they are going to hell? Jesus Christ Himself said, “I am the way, the truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). If humans could have reached God any other way, Jesus would not have had to die. His voluntary death on the cross makes this fact even more compelling.

Don’t all religions teach the same thing?

“Don’t all roads lead to God?” people often ask. “If a person is sincere in his or her beliefs, won’t he or she get to heaven?” If you allow that all beliefs are true, then by what standards do you live? All belief systems cannot be true, because they cancel each other out. If you take time to look at what each religion teaches, you’ll find that only Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again.Christianity differs from all other religions because it’s the only one that offers grace. The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross for our sins, that  He paid that debt in our place, and that if we will turn from our sin and follow Him, we can be forgiven and know that we will go to heaven.

Don’t good people go to heaven?

Why is no one good enough to go to heaven? Because goodness is not righteousness. Good works are the fruit of the natural man – what he does in himself in an attempt to get to heaven.  No matter the quality of good works, apart from the righteousness that comes by salvation in Christ Jesus, they are works that will be consumed in the fire of eternal judgment. (Romans 3:9-20).

Who is going to heaven?

Going to heaven is the assurance of all who have believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Going to heaven is a journey that will take place in the future (i.e., upon death) for all who have a relationship with Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:1). The believer has this hope from the moment he accepts Christ.

What is sin?

Sin is the breaking of God’s law (i.e. lawlessness) (1 John 3:4).  If God says “Do not lie” and you lie, then you have broken His law and sinned. Sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2). All human beings have sinned and, “the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23).  So, to sin, to break God’s law, results in judgment. If God did not judge the sinner, then He is not upholding His holiness and he would be allowing sinners to go unpunished.
