Prayer
Prayer is communication with God. Pray to God to strengthen your relationship and love toward Him.
Prayer is as essential to knowing God and growing spiritually as breathing is to living and staying healthy. Just as you need to communicate effectively to be a good employee or spouse, your walk with God is only as strong as the communication between you and Him.
Baptism and Communion
Participate in these biblically-ordained sacraments.
What is Baptism?
Baptism is the act of a BELIEVING Christian who wants to publicly confess their personal commitment to Jesus Christ. It is the symbolic WASHING AWAY of one’s old, sinful past and the RISING again to LIFE, God’s way. The act of baptism can be defined as an outward expression of an inward decision. Baptism by water immersion illustrates Jesus’ BURIAL and RESURRECTION (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Colossians 2:12). Baptism illustrates NEW LIFE as a Christian (Romans 6:4) Baptism does not make you a Christian. It is a demonstration that you already believe and have repented of your sins. You are “saved” only by your faith in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8-9).
What is Communion?
Communion is sometimes called the Lord’s Supper. Unlike Baptism, which is a one-time event, Communion is a practice that is meant to be observed over and over throughout the life of a Christian. It is a holy time of worship when Christians come together as one body to remember and celebrate what Christ did for us through his life, death and resurrection (1 Corinthians 11:24-28). Communion is a time of self-examination and participation in the body of Christ.
- The Bread and Cup represent Communion:
- The bread symbolizes life. It is the nourishment that sustains life. Jesus said in John 6:35, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry.”) Bread also represents the physical body of Christ. At the Last Supper Jesus broke bread, gave it to his disciples and said, “This is my body given for you…” (Luke 22:19)
- The Cup represents God’s covenant in blood, poured out in payment for humanity’s sin. Jesus said in Luke 22:20, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”
Church
Find a church so that you can hear the preaching/ teaching of God’s Word and rejoice in the fellowship of other Christians.
The Bible says that we should not forsake “our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near,” (Hebrews 10:25). It is wise to go to church because that is where we can go to hear the word of God preached and to experience the friendship and encouragement of other believers and evangelize the lost. It was also Jesus’ custom to go the synagogue (Luke 4:16). Jesus is the Head of the church.
Witness
Learn to witness (share your faith) as you grow as Christian.
Evangelism is obedience to the Great Commission(Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8); we are to bring the good news to the world (Romans 10:14); we are not to be ashamed of proclaiming the gospel (Romans 1:16); evangelism is part of spiritual growth and wisdom (Proverbs 11:30); evangelism is an expression of the relationship between God and his people (2 Corinthians 3:1-3); all believers are to evangelize (2 Timothy 4:5).
