Baptism is the act of a BELIEVING Christian who wants to publicly confess their personal commitment to Jesus Christ. It is the symbolic WASHING AWAY of one’s old, sinful past and the RISING again to LIFE, God’s way. The act of baptism can be defined as an outward expression of an inward decision. Baptism by water immersion illustrates Jesus’ BURIAL and RESURRECTION (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Colossians 2:12). Baptism illustrates NEW LIFE as a Christian (Romans 6:4) Baptism does not make you a Christian. It is a demonstration that you already believe and have repented of your sins. You are “saved” only by your faith in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8-9).
We hold classes periodically to help you learn more about baptism. They typically take place right after the service on Sundays. If you’d like to be notified of the next class please contact the office.
The Apostle Paul teaches us in 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 “The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up only one body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves and some are free. But we all have been baptized int Christ’s body by one Spirit, and we have all received the same Spirit.”
Church membership is the next step of engagement for a believer once they have sensed God’s call to a worship and serve at a local church. We need to stay connected with each other so that body of Christ, the church, functions in a unified way as each member does their part in love. Then the church functions as a healthy and fruit bearing organization.
Pastor Darren hosts a one-hour membership class every second month. If you are interested in attending the membership class please contact the church office.
At Steele Heights Baptist Church, we encourage parents to publicly dedicate their children to the Lord.
First, the parents are dedicating themselves to raise their children in a Christ-centered home where they teach their child what it means to follow Jesus. Secondly, we dedicate the children to the Lord and ask God to watch over them and protect them. We ask that the child will make their own decision to follow Jesus Christ. And finally, the church members dedicate themselves to supporting the parents in the raising of their children and to coming alongside and helping the children grow in their faith.
You can find biblical examples of child dedication in 1 Samuel 1:27-28 and Luke 2:22-40.
If you would like to have your child dedicated to the Lord, please contact the church office.
One of the core values that we hold at SHBC is ‘Relationships Matter’. Throughout scripture, we see the importance of healthy, God-honouring, redemptive relationships between people and with God. One of the best ways we see the body of Christ cultivating those kinds of significant relationships is through meeting together in groups. But life groups are more than just about finding good people to spend some time with … READ MORE ABOUT LIFE GROUPS
